Situated directly south of the London Borough of Merton and West of Croydon, and being on the outer edge of London as a whole, the London Borough of Sutton is very much suburban in character. In fact, estate agents are more likely to describe Sutton as a sequence of villages, rather than as somewhere that feels like a part of the much larger London metropolis, although Sutton is still well-connected with central London.

In particular, Sutton benefits from excellent North to South rail connections courtesy of the Sutton loop, which forms part of the Thames link network, connecting with the rest of London via Blackfriars and St Pancras. Regular commuter services are also available into London Victoria, with other parts of London being accessible via Faringdon, Wimbledon, Balham or elephant and Castle. Some commuters also prefer to use local bus services to access major stations in neighbouring Croydon, especially East Croydon.
